A Tough Night

B
radyn's mom and dad had a very busy weekend so they asked Karen and I to take care of him while they were away. We never turn down an opportunity to spend time with Bradyn and Layla; they are truly the proverbial apples of our eyes. Unfortunately Bradyn was sick....really, really sick. He picked up a virus from one of the kids at bible school and brought it with him to our house Friday afternoon. Karen and I spent most of the time holding him which we didn't mind at all.... when he's not feeling well is about the only time he is still enough to hold. Friday night his fever was high and we stayed awake all night watching over him and keeping cool wash cloths on his head while he tossed and turned. I didn't like the fact that he was sick but I cherished the moments we were able to care for him. We took it nice and easy and spent most of Saturday watching movies and eating jello. Bradyn's mom picked him up Saturday night. I called this morning and he was back to normal. Kids are so resilient, they bounce back so quickly.... I wish it were the same for me. Here is a photo Karen took of me this morning right before I shaved.

NC Nature Photography / Seeing the Best

S
ince I was a young boy I have enjoyed running. I ran to play with my friends and I ran home....I ran to school and back...... to the swimming pool....I even ran to church a couple of times. I still like running. It helps me keep things in perspective. I love people and I like to be around them but it's in the solitude of running that I regain my energy. Most of my running is done right here in the little town where I live. I see people that I know along the way ...young people, older people, and people of different races.... they know me and I know them...

As I was running through the streets of our town today I noticed a little more trash than usual in the side ditches. Maybe because we've had so much rain it's washed the litter down. As I continued running I began to notice the many wild flowers the rain has bestowed upon us..... beautiful little flowers that bloom virtually unnoticed. They reminded me of the fact that there is beauty in everything if we just take time to look for it.

With only a little time to spare I hurried home to get a camera. I went back to some of the places I had seen along the way to snap a few pictures as a reminder to always look for the best in others....... and in life.

NC Wedding Photography - Mi Mi and Tom

P
lanning a wedding can be quite a task but planning one from out of state is really a challenge! Tom and Mi Mi met that challenge head on and did an excellent job....... from Washington, DC and in just a few short weeks they planned a simply elegant wedding with lots of attention to detail.

The wedding day unfolded as we met Mi Mi at the beautiful Proximity Hotel in Greensboro NC to do a few pics of Mi Mi. Dressed in a wedding gown by Modern Trousseau, she looked absolutely stunning!

Afterwards, we traveled to Denton, NC, a cozy little town located southwest of High Point...... where Tom and Mi Mi spoke their vows.... in a one-room church. Mt Ebal church is rooted in family history going back to the mid 1800s....Mi Mi's ancestors established the church and laid the foundation for what became the cornerstone of the Methodist Protestant Revival movement in NC

... no lights, no fans and no electricity.....tucked back off the road in a field with a breathtaking view of beautiful rolling hills stretching beyond the horizon.

The reception was held at the, just recently opened, new space at Revolution Mill Studios in Greensboro. We had a great time celebrating with their family and friends...... the majority from out of state... across the country.

We also had the pleasure of working with Black Daffodil Films, a Super 8 film company. We look forward to seeing the finished product with the marriage of Super 8 and still photography and will posting it soon so keep a look out!

Congratulations Tom and Mi Mi and thank you for choosing Autumn Song for your wedding day!

Greensboro Children's Photography-Jack & Sam

W
hen you work with children you never really know what to expect. I was told that Jack, who is almost four, is a shy boy and hard to photograph. As it turned out he was easy to photograph, just hard to catch! He loved to ride his little motorized cars around the yard and was actually a good driver. I really worked up a sweat trying to capture him on film. His brother Sam liked to sit and play with bubbles; he actually provided me an opportunity to get some rest. I really enjoyed my time with Jack and Sam. They are wonderful boys and I am sure they will keep their parents entertained for years.

NC Wedding Photography - Jennifer and Brandon

W
henever it's possible I like to arrive early for a wedding..... before anyone else. I like to have time to get things ready and to reflect on why I love shooting weddings. I say a prayer for the couple, and one for me, that things will go especially well. Saturday was a great day to arrive early..... a cool breeze was blowing through the old oaks trees where the church stood. The church was built in 1954, not that old but still not that young either. I could almost hear the old hymns being sung as I walked around outside...... the older folks with a bible in one hand and a fan in the other, one eye on the good book and one on their children.....

Suddenly, my daydreams ended as the bride and her mother arrived. They hurried inside and just like that..... we were in full wedding mode! I really enjoyed shooting Brandon and Jennifer's wedding. Their wedding was in my hometown of Thomasville so I knew a lot of the people involved.

Jennifer and Brandon have some great friends and all contributed to making their day special. Their reception was great! The band played a lot of rock&roll music and kept the crowd going. Jennifer and her dad amazed the guests with a perfectly executed first dance! Jim...I didn't know you had so many great moves.

It was a wonderful day for a wedding..... Thanks Jennifer and Brandon for allowing us to be a part of it!!
