03.31.11Children/FamiliesNC Maternity Photography ~ A Mother's Love |
W ho can fully understand the love that a mother has for her children? Only a mother. It begins with a tiny flutter inside her belly, and it grows and grows, and grows, and it never ends. It's been said that the "hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world." Gentle hands that mold and shape the hearts and lives of future generations... what could be a greater privilege and responsibility? Each time I photograph an expectant mother I say a little prayer, a prayer that she will have wisdom and patience and that her child will always know what it is to be loved and to give love. Mothers... real superheros! |

03.25.11WeddingsNC Wedding Planners ~The Divine Ms B--Rebecca Rose Events |
F riday morning was beautiful. Dad and I started the morning quite early--5am to be exact--with a long run. We finished up...hit the showers...and then headed out to Winston Salem to meet with Becca. Our destination of choice--Krankies. I like Krankies....a lot. I like that it has so much personality. I like that their coffee is always perfect (and I am a coffee snob, to say the least)....that the crowd is eclectic...and that I always see someone I know there. If you live in the area and have never been, do yourself a favor and check it out. They roast their own beans, PS...so you can take the Krankies goodness home with you to enjoy EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.
SO the reason we were there. Becca. I met Becca (Rebecca Rose Events) a couple of weeks ago. She is refreshing. She is energetic. She is JUST the wedding planner that I would have wanted when I walked down the aisle a few years ago. AND Becca is just the person I have been looking for as a photographer/wedding geek--the type of planner that I want to dream big with...the type that is imaginative...the type that is passionate. One of the things I like best about Becca (other than the fact that she is from the great state of Texas!!) is that she spent lots of time as a "scrub". She worked every facet of the event/wedding industry before becoming a planner. She found value in intimately knowing the industry so that she could be effective as a planner. WOW. People like her are few and far between--especially in my generation. Most of us think we can be a paid professional without ever having learned the subtle nuances of our "art". Not Becca--she knows her "art"...she knows her business and knows it well. In my opinion...she's one of the best there is. I love her drive. I love her vision. I love her passion. I love being associated with her. AND I'm super excited about a little project we have in the works. So just a heads up...keep a lookout for her. She's a mover :) LRB |

03.22.11Commercial WorkInspired by Martha Stewart |
D own east there's a little town called Kinston. Nestled among the cotton fields is a thriving manufacturing company by the name of MasterBrand Cabinets Inc. where they make beautiful cabinetry for homes and offices worldwide AND they do it right here in the USA! Their home office is located in Jasper, Indiana. They have more than 8,000 associates at manufacturing facilities and service centers throughout the United States and Canada. MasterBrand also manufactures a line of cabinets for Martha Stewart Living Kitchens.
I was invited by MasterBrand to photograph Martha Stewart while she visited the facility in Kinston. I must say I was inspired. Inspired by the courtesy and professionalism from all the folks at MB, from top level management to the brilliant man with a contagious smile that cleans and maintains the facility. I was inspired by Martha Stewart... here's a person that has so much--as far as material things. She could be sitting on an island somewhere with someone bringing her margaritas and chips, yet she is driven to keep going--arguably more so than anyone else in the entire building. You have to wonder what makes a person like that go. I don't know the answer, but this is what I believe about her; she loves her work. She also seems to take a great deal of pride and responsibility in knowing that she is providing jobs and a future for so many people. I looked around and there were over 300 people in just one location making a living because she decides to continue working. Martha Stewart was happy and so was everyone else. |

03.14.11Children/FamiliesLife's First Breath ~ North Carolina Birth Photography |
M y phone rang early Sunday morning. It was Brittany. We are leaving for the hospital in an hour. Wonder. Excitement. Anticipation. Today would be the day that dad and I had the honor of documenting a babys first breath--her first acquaintance with the world.
I dropped my two girls off at their nanas for the day. Dad and I drove to High Point Regional Hospital where Matt and Brittany had already settled into their room and were starting to walk their laps around the labor and delivery floor. I quickly realized that Brittany was tougher than most. The only real sign of a contraction was the way that she reached for Matt and grabbed his shirt...his hand...his shoulder. They are a great team. It was amazing to witness how she clung to him with each contraction--but took the pain like the strongest and most graceful woman Ive seen. As the labor progressed, the room grew so silent that a whisper felt deafening. Dad and I knew at that point, it was almost time. Dr. Sansing came in...commented on how easy Brittany was making labor out to be...then asked if she was ready to meet her little girl. I watched as Brittany and Matt worked, surely as God intended man and wife, to meet their little girl. Brittany pushed, Matt encouraged. Brittany pushed, Matt encouraged (and even brushed her hair out of her eyes--I know girls, my heart melted a little). Within minutes--literally 20 minutes, the world got just a little better when it met Miss Piper June. Her entrance into this world left me breathless. Ive never been at such a loss for words. I stood there in awe of the miracle of life--of Gods creation. Congratulations Matt, Brittany and big brother Jett. Welcome to this world Piper June (you have some pretty amazing and special parents). Thank you guys for letting us have the honor of being there! ~Lindsey~ |

03.06.11PersonalLaw and Order |
L indsey has a couple of nicknames for Layla. Most of the time we call her "Beans". Sometimes we refer to her as "Law and Order". Like her mom and her mom's mom she is very literal. Be very careful how you joke around with her, cross all the t's and dot the i's, don't color outside the lines, and never break any safety rules. If you do ... you will be confronted.
I have a confession to make - Karen and I skipped church this morning. It was raining hard and well, we were just lazy. I thought we had gotten away with it but guess who calls at 12:00 o'clock..."Law and Order". Our conversations went something like this: Layla: Hey Poppy Me: Hey Layla Layla: I had some chocolate this morning. (she always keeps me updated on her chocolate consumption) Me: Good, did it make you happy? Layla: Yes but it wasn't very big. Me: Well we'll just have to do something about that! How was your church this morning? Layla : Good, how was your's? *awkward pause* Karen (the original Law and Order) is listening to the conversation and says we should tell her the truth--tell her we didn't go this morning. I think at this point, I started to buckle under the pressure. Me: Layla honey I didn't go to church this morning. Layla: (thick with disappointment) Why not Poppy? Karen to me: Tell her we were just lazy. Me to Layla: I was just lazy this morning. Layla: Oh my Poppy, I'm gonna have to pray for you. Today one thing became more obvious to me than ever.... I need my girls to keep me in line! |
