Engagement Session-Allison and Drew: A Love Story

D
uring one of the hottest weeks of the year, I thought it would be a great idea to drive down to the foothills of South Carolina to one of my favorite cities...Greenville. It was in Greenville that I met up with Allison and Drew. Drew works as an assistant superintendent at the golf course out at The Cliffs at Glassy--and it was at that very place that Drew proposed to Allison. So, it only made sense to do their engagement photos there.

As I entered through the gates of this picturesque golfing community, I started to get super excited about our shoot. Not only did Allison and Drew have a lot of romance tied up in this place, it just happened to provide one of the most beautiful settings to photograph a love story.

NC Wedding Photography-Alix and Chad Slideshow

I
am so happy to be sharing more of Alix and Chad's wedding with y'all. They were just so sweet...their day was packed full of tiny little intimate moments that we couldn't keep it all to ourselves.

I hope you enjoy. OH and if you are digging the music--its Explosions in the Sky's (one of my favorite 'take homes' from my time in Texas) "Your Hand in Mine" off their album The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place. AND you can purchase it right HERE.

W
hile we are still working on the slideshow from Alix and Chad's wedding day, we thought we'd get you through the next few days with a post of some sweet little girls. Who doesn't love adorable little girls with contagious smiles?! Enjoy :)

I've known Erin since she was held in her mother's arms. She used to play kickball in the yard at Central Wesleyan Church with Lindsey--and I don't remember ever watching a game where she wasn't laughing the entire time.

A couple of weeks ago, Erin contacted me about doing some photos of HER baby. It is always so much fun to watch young ladies, who I knew as babies, hold their own babies. Erin has two precious little girls who visibly fill her life with so much joy. She still has that same laugh and has no doubt passed it on to her oldest, Cora. One of the things I loved the most about our time together, was that Erin was content to let me get in there and document her little girl's personality. She let me and Cora do our thing and we had a blast.

After our shoot and after she viewed the online gallery, she sent me the sweetest and most heartfelt note. I thought I'd include it in this post....for such a young mom, Erin has such amazing insight. Most of us don't figure out how to slow down until our babies are holding babies.

"Rodney I am just unable to put into words how grateful I am for your time and effort yesterday. Jay and stayed up late last night going over and over all the pictures you posted. It's going to be difficult to find a few we like the best. I know Cora enjoyed being the center of attention once again since little Emma has joined the family. Things get kinda tough here at home with both girls for me as a mommy. My time is so devided and so much of the time I feel very hurried each day. Yesterday was a great reminder to slow down and enjoy the very presence of my children. They are growing so fast. Rodney you have such an amazing ability to take the ordinary and make it extraordinary. For once I can take those brief moments in time where my child is in transition from one thought to another or one emotion to another and now they can last forever. I got to see expressions my Cora makes that even I have never seen before. Even in the birth process there is a stage called transition that I am reminded of as I write this message to you. Transition just happens so fast. I thank you for capturing these moments with my children so I can cherrish them for as long as I live on this earth. As I viewed the pictures with my husband, I had this internal thought. I imagined that these are the moments in the day that God sees so easily and we always miss. We miss so much of life because we aren't looking carefully with focused eyes. Now the hard part begins for me. Chosing which pictures I like the best to have printed as they are all priceless to me. Again, Rodney, Thank you."

Thank YOU Erin! Your words really brightened my day....enjoy those babies!

NC Wedding Photography-Alix and Chad

A
lix and Chad are such an amazing couple. Their genuineness comes through right from the start. They are both so comfortable in their own skin...neither takes himself/herself too seriously...and they LOVE each other through and through. So, it stands to reason that their wedding day would be genuine...intimate...and real. We were so excited that they chose us to document their love story and we loved that they chose a garden wedding at Gray Gables. I could go on and on...but I'll let the photographs speak for themselves. There were so many tiny and overwhelming little moments in the day, that we're going to do this one a little different...we're going to start you off with some of our favorites from the day--and then later this week, we'll get a slideshow rolling so you can experience their wedding day too.

So, without further adieu...Alix and Chad...

Who's Girl?

I
was sitting around thinking about what to get dad for Father's Day--I contemplated something running related...I thought about finding a rare edition of Tom Sawyer...but then I thought, what better gift for a man who likes to "fly under the radar" than singing his praises on the world wide web :) Happy Father's Day, dad.

Now...eheemmmm...a short list of things I've learned from my dad:

When I was little, I learned that riding in the back of a pick-up while eating ice cream was fun but always made my mother angry (hello, tangles in my long curly hair!), I learned how to drive a tractor and a stick shift, I learned how to shoot a gun, I learned that the Rolling Stones were WAY better than New Kids on the Block and I learned that real beauty doesn't come from make up and high heels (dad made me promise I'd never wear either--sorry about that dad). I learned that a boy should NEVER hold my hand unless he loved me like my daddy--which was impossible and responsible for many break ups. I learned the importance of character and responsibility. More important than anything--I was raised up by a man who feared and loved the Lord. A man who disciplined me with patience and gentleness and who taught me that trusting in the Lord was a simple as trusting him. I learned to trust and to love freely and without reservation.

Now that I'm older--I learn daily from my daddy. I learn about life...I learn about family...I learn how to slow down and I learn just how precious every little moment is. I learn how to multi-task with grace and efficiency. I am STILL learning about photography--learning how to look with my eyes and not just my viewfinder :) He is my dad, my best friend, my mentor....my prince charming.

Thank you dad. Thank you for being awesome! Happy Father's Day....
I love you,
me
