NC Photography......Film or Digital?

E
ver so often I am asked this question... do you shoot film or digital? The answer is both. Although I shoot 99.5% digitally, I do like to mix in a little film occasionally. I don't know why, I just do. It's never really been that big of a deal to me which is best as both have certain advantages and disadvantages. I believe a photographer should develop their own personal way, stay true to that way and use whatever medium they feel best represents their vision. In photography as well as life we can easily get caught up doing all of the right things but for the wrong reasons. Doing the right things will often get you noticed by others and doing them for the right reasons will help you sleep at night. My wish is that my clients choose me because I am someone they can trust with one of the most important days of their life and because my images tell a story--not because I shoot film or digitally or because the price is right.
I'm including a few links to some of the more sought after wedding photographers; two shoot film and two shoot digitally. See if you can guess which is my favorite.

Film Shooter... Jose Villa
Film Shooter... Elizabeth Messina
Digital Shooter.... Ben Chrisman
Digital Shooter... Jasmine Star

Here are a few photos that I recently shot using film.

Greensboro Children's Photography-The Spicer Family

T
he weather for outdoor photography has been quite challenging for the last few weeks. With unexpected showers popping up throughout the day we have had to do quite a bit of rescheduling but as my dad always told me "they don't pay pilots to fly in the sunshine always." We managed to squeak a children/family session in the other day with the Spicer family at their home in Greensboro. Kristi and Matt are the mom and dad with their three beautiful daughters Olivia, Paige, and Hayden. It's always interesting to watch families as they interact with each other. Olivia and Paige really seemed to enjoy helping Kristi with their newborn sister, Hayden. I am certain they will make fantastic big sisters.

You Win Some, You Lose Some, and Some Get Rained Out

G
etting rained out is what happened to Bradyn and me this past Sunday. Bradyn had asked me on several occasions about going to watch Bobby race. Since Charlotte is fairly close and I know my way around pretty well, I thought this will be a great opportunity for us to go. We left early in an effort to beat the traffic and In just a short time we were inside the track. We met quite a few soldiers and Bradyn wanted his photo made with one of them. It made me happy that he thought of them as heroes. We also had the great opportunity to hear Franklin Graham speak at the drivers' church service.

Even though it rained the race out we still had a good time. All that kids like us need is a little bit to eat, people to play with, a few mud puddles to jump in and all is well.

The Candy Factory - Historic Lexington

A
day without chocolate is like a day without sunshine....... least that's my opinion! If you have a need to satisfy your urge for chocolate, or, for that matter, anything sweet, The Candy Factory in historic Lexington is the place to go.

This morning, after a meeting with a bride and groom about wedding day details, I decided to swing by for a visit with Lindsey and Layla. Now Layla is about as crazy over chocolate as I am so it didn't take much to coax her into leaving the big cozy, comfy bed for a visit to the Candy Factory.

The Candy Factory has been in operation since 1978 when they began selling homemade chocolates and now ship all across the US. When you walk in it is like stepping back in time with old wooden floors that creak and the smell of fresh popped corn and homemade chocolates. It is truly like yesteryear with lots of little antique treasures and glass jars full of candy. To watch as children enter the store with eyes as wide as moon pies is such a site to see!

They also have stuffed animals which Layla just adores! She loves holding them and always gives each one a kiss when it is time to go. I just couldn't resist getting Layla one so I let her have her pick. She choose the smallest stuffed animal in the store, a little pink poodle. Upon our return from the Candy Factory Layla snuggled back in the big cozy bed with her new pink "poogle".

A visit to the Candy Factory in historic Lexington is well worth the trip. Make sure you try some of their homemade chocolates, they have a large selection and are the best! Jeanne Leonard and her staff will make sure your visit is a pleasant one. Go ahead, indulge!

NC Portrait Photography ~ Michael & Lisa ~

T
he last several days have been perfect for photography, nice and cool with a mixture of sun and clouds. On Tuesday I took advantage of the nice weather and traveled to Chapel Hill for an engagement session with Michael and Lisa, both recent graduates of UNC at Chapel Hill. I have been to Chapel Hill on several occasions for bridal portraits, other business and for pleasure but never for an engagement session. They gave me the grand tour, stopping at locations that have special meanings to them. Michael and Lisa, thank you for such a great afternoon, hope you had as much fun as I did!

Looking forward to your wedding in August!
