Count Down ... "Share Your Heart' Contest!

W
e're very excited about our "Share Your Heart" contest and so pleased with the response so far! The time is growing nigh ... we have a couple of days remaining before the deadline so get your "pen" writing and send us your story.

(By the way Lindsey, we're still waiting on your story about your love affair with Edy's Slow-Churned Ice Cream. Since you're our daughter you do know you'll be disqualified due to a conflict of interest ... sorry ... still want to read your story!)

So here's the "lowdown" if you missed the previous post:

Our logo here at Autumn Song is the heART of photography. But it’s not just a logo to us. Connecting in a heartfelt way through our love of photography is at the core essence of who we are! So, to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, we would like to include you in a fun contest and give you an opportunity to share your heart and your story with us.

Share your heART. Submit your story of 500 words or less to Autumn Song. Your story can be about anything dear to your heart … a loved one, a pet, a cause, your faith ... humorous or serious. We will select three finalists and post their stories on our blog. Autumn Song readers will vote for the winner by posting comments.
All Entries Must Be Submitted by February 1st, 2010.

***NOTE: by request we are giving an extension on the deadline. The new deadline is February 6th.***

The winner will be announced on February 14th and will receive his or her choice of a B&W portrait session (which includes an 11x14 portrait!), or a matted and signed B&W fine art photograph by Rod. The fine art photograph is printed with archival inks on archival art paper.

We've had several inquiries about the fine art photograph and some requests to post an image. Well, here it is! Isn't it beautiful? One of my personal favorites of Rod's!

And The Winner is ...

T
his past "you name it contest" proved to be a good one! We enjoyed reading all the comments and hope you did too. Maybe we should give two prizes ... one for the correct answer AND one for the most creative 'cause we have gotten some good ones for the last two contests! Hummmm, we will have to think about that one! Thanks for your participation.

So, the winner is:

Chasity Evans

HOORAY! CONGRATUALTIONS!

Chasity's guess, a swallowtail butterfly.

The photo is of a tiger swallowtail butterfly. Check out the photo below.

(By the way, the artist who took this beautiful photo was me ... NOT ... it was, the one and only, Rodney B. Slate!)

Next contest coming up the third Thursday of October so stay tuned.

Third Thursday You Name It Contest!

So, after much debate . . . at the last minute, we couldn't agree on what to post for our contest, but finally we have it!

Oh, you want to know who won the toss? Rodney, of course . . . he ALWAYS wins! (Don't tell Rod I said that though, he'll tell you differently.)

Here is a closeup of . . . well, something!

Tell us what you think it is; post your guess in the comment box.

In my opinion, for what it is worth, this one is the easiest yet. Could it be because I know exactly what it is . . . 'cause I actually took the photograph . . . or did I just dream I did? . . . hummmm . . .

Stay posted, winner will be announced on Monday!

Isn't A Smile Contagious!

Did you know that a smile is universal in meaning?

This October, Autumn Song is pleased to participate with an elite group of photographers around the country to promote the work of Operation Smile! This worldwide children's medical organization treats children around the world who suffer with cleft lips, cleft palates, and other facial deformities. Along with other studio members of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), we have pledged to contribute a portion from each session to PPA Charities, which has chosen Operation Smile as its charitable partner. We also have Smile Cards this year. The cards are a pack of 10 note cards with a photo of your choice on the front of the card. 100% of the proceeds from the Smile Cards will go to Operation Smile.

Recording the faces of children and their families is our greatest pleasure. That’s why we believe so strongly in the work of Operation Smile. Each year this incredible organization of more than 6,000 volunteer doctors, nurses, dentists, and specialized health-care professionals perform free reconstructive surgeries for children in need. More than 100,000 children are born with a facial deformity each year in Operation Smile’s 26 partner countries. That’s a lot of smiles we can be a part of!

Throughout the month of October we will celebrate Family Portrait Month, by donating $50.00 from every session to Operation Smile. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to update your family or children’s portraits while also making a difference in the lives of children around the world.

What’s more, we want you to benefit from this special promotion with our annual Fall at the Farm. There, we will capture the warm colors of fall at the farm with your family or children.

Fall at the Farm
This special 1-2 hour on-location session is $125 (regularly $225) and includes:
• One 11 x 14 portrait of your choice
• Five web-sized images of your choice for your blog, Facebook or MySpace
• Online viewing for your convenience and for sharing with family and friends

New this year, a pack of 10 personalized note cards with an image of choice from your session on the front for $15.00 a pack. 100% of the proceeds from the note cards will go to benefit Operation Smile.

We believe that Family Portrait Month is a wonderful way to teach children the value of reaching out to others. Even small children can understand the importance of Operation Smile’s work, and they are eager to help these children.

A smile is universal in meaning . . . and it is pretty contagious! But what about children who cannot smile? Those who find it difficult to even speak or eat? Now is your chance to give them a smile. Participate in Family Portrait Month and make a difference! For further information or to schedule a portrait session Email us or call 336-475-6457.

"Changing lives, one smile at a time."
